FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY CONGRATULATES NEWLY ELECTED STATE LAWMAKERS AND LEGISLATIVE NOMINEES

TALLAHASSEE, FL Tonight, Democratic voters across Florida elected new state lawmakers and chose the legislative nominees who will break the Republican supermajority in Tallahassee.

“Congratulations to every Democrat who won their primary tonight, and thank you to every democratic candidate who put their name on the ballot in Florida this year,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried

“For years, the state legislature has been a reckless rubber stamp on rightwing priorities that have made Florida a national punchline. Tonight, Florida Democrats selected the team that will break the supermajority in Tallahassee, with a focus on affordability and improving everyday life for Floridians.

“We know this works because we watched it happen. Brian Nathan was outspent ten to one and won a Tampa Senate seat Donald Trump carried by eight points. Emily Gregory flipped the district that contains Mar-a-Lago with a 13 point swing. RaShon Young became Florida’s first Black Gen Z state legislator. Anthony Nieves has just flipped Florida HD-47, a seat Democrats lost by less than 1,300 votes just 2 years ago. None of them were career politicians. They were Floridians who got fed up, and decided to step up.

“The supermajority means Republicans never have to ask for permission. Not from Democrats, not from the public, and not from you. And come November, Democrats will break it and bring balance back to Tallahassee.”

The Florida Democratic Party would like to congratulate all of our new and returning lawmakers and legislative nominees on their victories:
