Jordan Shoots Down 20 Iranian Missiles Over Azraq Region

(MENAFN) Jordan's air defense systems and Royal Air Force fighter jets intercepted and destroyed 20 missiles fired from Iran early Thursday morning, the Jordan Armed Forces announced in an official statement.

The missiles were brought down over the Azraq region in eastern Zarqa Governorate. Authorities confirmed that falling debris resulted from the interception, though no casualties or material damage were reported on the ground. Specialized military engineering teams have since been deployed to the area to neutralize any unexploded ordnance.

The Jordan Armed Forces said it is maintaining the highest levels of combat readiness while closely monitoring the rapidly evolving regional situation. The military reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to defending the kingdom's national sovereignty and protecting its airspace, vowing to prevent violations by any party.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) separately claimed Thursday that it had targeted the US al-Azraq base in Jordan with ballistic missiles, describing the strikes as a direct response to American attacks on Iranian territory.
